A 30-BORE FLINTLOCK SINGLE-BARRELLED SPORTING RIFLE , no visible serial number,
circa 1780, with 28 1/2in. re-blued swamped octagonal sighted barrel rifled with seven grooves and inlaid with silver scrollwork at the muzzle and breech, silver-inlaid signature 'ANDREAS AUER IN LAUFEEN' and silver-lined maker's marks at the breech, silver bead fore-sight, engraved tang, flat bevelled lock chiselled in low relief with a hound and a stag, walnut full stock carved in relief with foliage, scrollwork, a stag and a recumbent doe, chequered grip, raised cheek-piece, the latter with inlaid mother of pearl sunburst (one segment missing), the stock embellished with shaped brass plaques, sliding wooden brass mounted patch-box cover, double-set triggers, moulded wooden trigger-guard, shaped brass mounts, brass sling mount, replacement ramrod.

Other Notes: Andreas Auer is recorded in Salzburg in circa 1775.
