A 54-BORE PERCUSSION REVOLVER SIGNED DEANE & SON, MODEL 'DEANE-HARDING', serial no. 15033P,
circa 1863, with octagonal 6in. barrel, dove-tailed fore-sight blade, the top-strap signed 'DEANE & SON, LONDON BRIDGE', plain numbered cylinder, solid frame engraved 'H.D. BICKNELL, 18 ROYAL IRISH', chequered walnut grip and hinged under-barrel rammer
Other Notes: According to the Manawatu Standard, Issue 8185, 10th May 1906, Lieutenant Colonel H. D. Bicknell, who had recently died at his home in Lymington, Hampshire aged 64, was an Ensign in the 18th Royal Irish Regt. during the Maori Wars of 1863-1866. Apparently, he took part in the action at Wanganui and was involved in various other smaller skirmishes with the natives and was mentioned in despatches. He retired from the army in 1882
