A SCARCE CASED .38 (RIMFIRE) FIVE-SHOT DOUBLE-ACTION REVOLVER, MODEL 'TRANTER'S PATENT', serial no. 7917,
1863 type circa 1866, with blued octagonal 5in. barrel, engraved band at muzzle, crescent fore-sight, the top-flat signed 'T. CONWAY, 15 BLACKFRIARS ST, MANCHESTER', borderline engraved solid frame marked 'W. TRANTER'S PATENT' (traces of finish in sheltered areas), plain cylinder, polished hammer and trigger, chequered walnut one-piece butt, iron butt-cap with threaded aperture for ejector rod (present) and iron trigger-guard bow; TOGETHER WITH a period oak storage case, re-lined and fitted for this pistol and containing a number of period, possibly associated accessories including a brass cleaning rod, oil-bottle, brush, turn-screw and provision for 15 rounds of ammunition
