AN IVORY-HILTED HUNTING HANGER,
circa 1770, with curved 27 1/4in. blade, broad shallow fullers to both sides extending to the tip, false edged for the last 8in. with further narrow fuller along the back edge (pitting to portions of the blade, some deep), flattened iron 'figure eight' shaped cross-guard, one-piece carved ivory grip, the pommel in the form of a lion's head, the mane flowing down onto the grip-piece which is further carved with diagonal rounded ridges, swelling at the centre, the front and back straps carved with central borders of foliage, a loose chain knuckle-guard extending between the cross-guard to just beneath the lion's mouth, no scabbard
