German, circa 1840, with 31in. slightly swamped octagonal barrel 'in the white' measuring 1 1/4in. across the flats, silver-inlaid signature 'FRANZ JIRKU' near breech, nickel-silver dove-tailed fore-sight, inlaid yellow metal band at muzzle, standing notch rear-sight with rococo finial, arabesque border engraved at breech along with a yellow metal band and a panel of scroll bordered by engraved ball bands, borderline and scroll engraved top-tang, carved percussion snail, border and scroll engraved bar-action lock inhabited by deer at the tail, scroll engraved dolphin-headed hammer, walnut full-stock with angular chequered panels at wrist and fore-end, iron long-spurred heel-plate, socket for peep-sight (absent) at wrist, double set triggers, iron pistol-grip trigger guard tang and bow, horn fore-end tip, and iron stirrup and button swivels
