A CONTINENTAL 14-BORE FLINTLOCK SILVER-MOUNTED SPORTING GUN, UNSIGNED, no visible serial number,
Spanish or Italian, first quarter of the 18th century, with triple-staged 48 1/2in. barrel banded at the intersection, slightly swamped muzzle, bun fore-sight mounted on a diamond shaped platform, four sets of twin silver bands inlaid at approximately 5in. intervals starting at breech, gold inlaid Spanish barrel-makers mark 'PIS, TO, IA' with seven fleur-d-lys barrel stamps, a further inlaid gold poincon and a crowned monogram, possibly 'R.A.G', the top-flat also engraved with the letters 'G.P.I.P.' each separated by a stamped star, long, flat bevel-edged miquelet type lock with raised carved grotesque at the tail, the cock carved in the form of a male figure brandishing a sword, further carved grotesque to the front of the frizzen, Spanish style half-stock, sheet silver heel-plate with rococo spur and toe-plate, rococo bordered plain silver inlay to the carved wood trigger-guard, similar sheet silver side-plate, fore-end escutcheon and nose barrel-band, white metal sling swivels, replacement ramrod and ramrod pipe
