29in. nitro reproved barrels (No.2 28in.), the ribs engraved 'WILLIAM POWELL & SON. 13. CARR'S LANE. BIRMINGHAM. SIR J. WHITWORTH'S FLUID PRESSED STEEL, No.1 rib gold-inlaid '1 C', No.2 gold-inlaid '2', 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. 1/4 and 1/2 choke (No.1) true and imp. cyl. (No.2), treble-grip actions, the fences carved with scrolling vine leaves on a matt background, toplevers gold-inlaid '1' and '2', automatic safeties with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' details, fine acanthus scroll engraving surrounding scrolling foliate motifs, brushed finish, 14 1/2in. figured stocks including 7/8in. wooden extensions, weight 6lb. 11oz. (No.1) 6lb. 10oz. (No.2), in their brass-cornered oak and leather double guncase, the exterior marked 'R. HARRISON BUSH. BURTONFIELDS HALL. STAMFORD BRIDGE. YORK.'

Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that this pair was completed in December 1896 Mr. W. M. Harrison Esq., who then ordered a single gun in 1903 to complete a trio.

William Mountain Harrison (1868 - 1917) lived at Burtonfields Hall until his death when title passed on to his nephew Major Reginald Harrison Bush.
