27 3/4in. nitro reproved (in 2016) blued damascus barrels (converted to smooth bore from a .450 Black Powder Express rifle), 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. 1/2 and full choke, left wall thickness below recommended minimum, Lang patent triggerplate action, patent no. 545 of 1878 with removable striker discs (marked 'L' and 'R'), carved serpentine fences with grape and vine engraving, automatic safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, fine acanthus scroll engraving with floral bouquets, brushed and reblued finish overall, 14 1/4in. replacement stock, fore-end with grip-catch release lever, weight 6lb. 5oz.
Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that the gun was made originally as a .450 Black Powder Express 'No.1' rifle circa 1882 for H.A. Cannard Esq.
