A .455/.476 SIX-SHOT REVOLVER, MODEL 'WEBLEY'S WG ARMY', serial no. 7488,
circa 1900, with 6in. barrel, nickel fore-sight blade, break open frame with quick release fluted cylinder, brushed bright hammer and trigger, chequered hard rubber birdshead grips, the whole an older re-finish; TOGETHER WITH a period leather full flap service holster and a leather belt pouch marked 'J. BUCK' (losses to both) and a collection of cuttings and copies of paperwork relating to the family and the revolver
Other Notes: This revolver was formerly the property of a Dr Joseph Buck of Kimberley, South Africa. Dr Buck was the local veterinary surgeon, and had emigrated to the area prior to the second Boer war. Whilst never actually enlisted, he tended to the horses of the British Army, as well as the donkeys that were used to drag the fuel logs to the Kimberley boilers from the surrounding countryside. The revolver subsequently passed to his son, also Joseph Buck who was a lieutenant in the Kimberley regiment and served during World War Two. The revolver remained with the family until 2011.
