AN UNUSUAL 12-BORE WALSH 1878 PATENT 'THE FIELD GUN OF THE FUTURE' SINGLE-BITE BACK-ACTION SIDELOCK NON-EJECTOR, serial no. 6500,
29 3/4in. nitro reproved damascus barrels, the rib engraved 'THOMAS BLAND & SONS. 106. STRAND. LONDON. THE FIELD GUN OF THE FUTURE', 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. 1/2 and 3/4 choke, action incorporating Dr J.H. Walsh's 'improved' patent No. 5106 of 1878, where the barrels are are hinged below the action face with the locking bolt sliding almost vertically in the head of the action body, integral triggerguard and barrel release, permanently attached fore-end, the barrels being retained by two cross-bolts, back action sidelocks, the plain action engraved with the makers name, 14 1/4in. stock including buttplate, weight 7lb. 1oz.
Provenance: The makers have confirmed that this gun was completed in 1889 for a Mr Grey.
