early type circa 1876, with side hinged 2 1/2in. barrel, the top marked 'COLT' (rubbed, finish lost), small white-metal fore-sight, brass frame with hooked birdshead butt, upright straight-backed central hammer, smooth rosewood grips (one chipped at heel) and sheathed trigger
