early to mid 17th century, the skull constructed in two halves with rolled seam decorated with a rope-twist design to the comb, the rolled edges of the brim similarly decorated, provision at rear for a plume holder (missing), the lining rivets alternating between plain domed and florally bordered, borderline engraving to the skull and brim, the hinged ear-pieces embossed with central six-petaled floral designs and affixed by floral and plain domed rivets, renewed leather chin-strap and painted black internally to preserve, lining absent
