A GOOD SWEPT-HILT RAPIER OF EXCEPTIONAL LENGTH,
probably North Italian circa 1620, the flattened diamond section blade fully 47in. long including squared forte, complex guard formed of reeded iron bars mostly running from single to triple and back, 'D' shaped blade catcher with reeded and chequered terminals, straight reeded quillions swelling slightly at the tips, variegated wire binding to the hilt (almost certainly renewed) and slightly faceted tea-cosy pommel with button tip
