A COMBED BURGONET HELMET,
German, circa 1580, the skull of one-piece construction with rope-twist decoration to the comb and slight fluting to the bowl, rear-mounted plume-holder, applied triple-piece neck guard with rope-twist border to the rolled edge, hinged cheek-pieces pierced with nine small holes in a circular pattern for the ears, applied cocked visor with rope-edge carved border and possibly later or renewed sliding nasal bar, painted black internally for preservation and with remenants of the original leather neck lining, (chin-strap a later replacement)
