AN ENGLISH BACK-SWORD OF MORTUARY FORM,
circa 1650, with straight single edged 36 1/4in. blade double fullered for the majority of its length, both fullers signed on both sides near the hilt 'XX ANDREA FERARA XX' (rubbed, barely legible in places), the tip of blade false edged for the last 14in., chased and engraved iron basket, the front face decorated and chiselled with ferns and geometric borders and pierced with small holes throughout, the basket formed from three bars and four side-bars, re-wirebound grip, the basket bars attached to the carved bulbous pommel by three screws
