A .50-70 (GOVT) BREECH-LOADING RIFLE, MODEL '1866 TRAPDOOR ALLIN CONVERSION', no visible serial number,
converted from a Model 1863 percussion musket, with shortened 29in. barrel, re-attached block fore-sight, folding twin aperture rear-sight, hinged breech marked '1866' over an eagles head device, the hinge fixed to the barrel by two screws, plain lock dated 1865 at the tail and signed 'U.S. SPRINGFIELD' together with an American eagle device, walnut three-quarter stock with iron furniture including two iron barrel-bands, iron nose-cap and provision for under-barrel clearing rod (missing)
