the lock dated for '1863', the barrel '1864', with 40in. rifled barrel, block and blade fore-sight, twin folding leaf with standing notch rear-sight, the breech marked '1864' (faint), plain solid top-tang, plain lock marked 'S.N. & W.T.C. FOR MASSACHUSETTS' together with an American eagle and the date, plain hammer, walnut three-quarter stock with iron furniture including three barrel bands and ramrod, fitted with a period leather sling (distressed) and complete with a 'U.S.' marked socket bayonet (no scabbard)
