A CASED PAIR OF 25-BORE PERCUSSION DUELLING-PISTOLS, no visible serial numbers,
circa 1785 with later conversion to percussion, lightly browned 8 3/4in. slightly swamped octagonal barrels, the top-flats signed 'TOW, LONDON', dovetailed bead fore-sights, dove-tailed standing notch rear-sights to the plain breech-blocks, slightly curved bevel-edged step-tailed locks signed 'TOW', sliding safes behind the slab-sided hammers, walnut full-stocks with flat-sided bag-shaped butts, iron furniture including engraved trigger-guard bows and side-plates, set triggers (currently out of adjustment), the wrists of both pistols fitted with key-hole plates for shoulder-stocks (absent) and horn tipped mahogany ramrods; TOGETHER WITH a period mahogany lidded walnut storage case probably original to the pistols, re-lined in green baize and containing a number of period accessories including a three-way flask, adjustable charger and a scissors ball mould and complimented with a quality reproduction turn-screw, nipple-key and loading rod.
