A 10-BORE (2 7/8IN.) DOUBLE-BARRELLED TOPLEVER HAMMERGUN, serial no. 3614,
31in. black powder only bold damascus barrels, rib engraved 'JOHN DICKSON & SON. 63 PRINCES STREET. EDINBURGH', some internal pitting, treble-grip action with carved percussion fences, rebounding back-action locks, beaded border engraving, retaining very slight traces of original colour-hardening, 13in. well-figured stock including horn buttplate, fore-end with shrouded push rod release catch, weight 7lb. 14oz.
Provenance: Completed 27th January 1880 for A. Ross-Hume. James Alexander Ross-Hume (1852-1935) resided at Ninewells, Chirnside near Berwick -Upon-Tweed. One of his ancestors was the famous philosopher David Hume who was also brought up at Ninewells.
