Almost certainly a late 'John Manton & Son' Birmingham produced gun circa 1855-77, with twist iron 30in. barrels, raised top-rib signed in script 'LONDON', engraving and gold lines at breech, carved snails with platinum plugs and raised fences, full scroll engraved long top-tang with raised ears forming the rear-sight, borderline, scroll and gamescene engraved back-action locks signed 'MANTON' with hooked fasteners at the tail, the lock fronts extending beneath the breech-blocks, scroll engraved dolphin headed hammers, figured walnut half-stock with finely chequered wrist, iron furniture (re-finished) and probable original ebony ramrod
