The aircraft depicted is that of Squadron Leader Bob Stanford Tuck DSO DFC, a most aggressive attacker and a phenomenal shot. His aircraft carries his own initials (RST) rather than conventional squadron codes. The nearest ME109 bearing a variation of a Gruppe Kommandeur's markings is flown by Adolf Galland who at that time commanded I/JG26.
