WILKINSON FOR GIEVES LTD, LONDON
AN 1827 PATTERN BRITISH NAVAL SWORD, serial no. 56954,
circa World War One, with slightly curved Wilkinson type 31 1/2in. blade etched for the majority of its length with arabesque panels of scrolls, the centre of the right hand side with a Royal Crest, the left with a fouled anchor surmounted with a King's crown (some mild staining and discolouration throughout), the forte with 'BY APPOINTMENT' in a banner together with 'HENRY WILKINSON, PALL MALL, LONDON', the reverse with inlet proof mark beneath 'GIEVES LTD, LONDON, PORTSMOUTH & DEVONPORT, the back edge with the serial number, gilded brass gothic half-basket hilt with moulded King's crown and fouled anchor device, the pommel carved with a lions head, white wire-bound sharkskin grip (lightly worn in places) and fold-down inner guard, together with its brass mounted black leather scabbard and bullion sword knot.
