circa 1876, with 2 1/2in. octagonal barrel, the top-flat signed 'HOPKINS & ALLEN MFG CO., PAT MAR 28 1871', the top-strap marked 'X.L. No.4 N.Y.', solid frame with rounded action body, fluted cylinder, colour hardened hammer and spur-trigger, smooth hardwood birdshead grips, the whole retaining much original nickel-plated finish
