Product Details

* MANHATTAN F.A. CO., USA

A RARE .31 PERCUSSION REVOLVER, MODEL 'LONDON PISTOL CO. POCKET', serial no. 288,
series 'I' circa 1860, with octagonal 4in. barrel, the top-flat signed 'LONDON PISTOL COMPANY', plain cylinder with roll engraved scene of a stagecoach holdup, scroll engraved open iron frame marked on the underside 'PATENTED DEC. 27. 1859', spurred hammer (badly cast, see notes below). smooth flared walnut grips (filled repair at heel) and guarded trigger, slight traces of finish

Other Notes: The 'London Pistol Company' was a cover name used by Manhattan Arms Co. to allow them to sell second quality products without damaging their own trading name. Only series I and a few series II revolvers were ever sold this way, and the estimated amount of pieces involved is probably less than 100 guns in total. All fall in the lower serial number range (less than number 1000), and all have slight defects, in this case a poor casting of the hammer.
