possibly American manufacture circa 1850, with round 4 1/2in. barrels, flat sighting planes with bead fore-sights, the breech-blocks signed 'LONDON' and fitted with standing notch rear-sights, engraved top-tangs, fenced nipples, border and scroll engraved diminutive back-action banana locks signed 'A.W. SPIES', walnut three-quarter stocks with chequered bag-shaped butts, white metal escutcheons and fore-end tips, small trigger-guard bows and replacement horn-tipped wooden ramrods, together with a later compartmented oak case lined in green baize and including a reproduction flask
