A 42-BORE PERCUSSION FIVE-SHOT SINGLE-ACTION REVOLVER, MODEL 'LONGSPUR', serial no. 461,
circa 1852, with octagonal 6 3/4in. barrel, the top-strap signed 'W. DOOLEY, 11 RANELAGH ST, LIVERPOOL', dove-tailed blade fore-sight bead, rear-sight notch to the hammer-nose, traces of engraving to muzzle and breech, borderline and scroll engraved open hinged frame, the left hand side with a banner in the engraving inscribed 'JAMES WEBLEY PATENTEE', plain border engraved cylinder (traces of finish), colour-hardened scroll engraved long-spurred hammer, chequered walnut grips, the backstrap marked with the serial number and 'BY HER MAJESTY'S ROYAL LETTERS PATENT' (rubbed, faint) iron scroll engraved butt-cap and trigger-guard bow, take down wedge to front of frame and hinged rammer mounted to right hand side of frame, mostly stripped of finish with some shallow pitting
