circa 1905, with round 8in. barrel marked on the left '44 S&W CTG', raised sighting rib signed 'SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD MASS U.S.A.' with no patent dates, pinned crescent fore-sight, standing rear-sight notch integral with the locking latch, short ejector-housing, 1 7/16in. fluted cylinder, break-open frame, chequered hard-rubber grips with the 'S&W' trademark embossed at the head and blued trigger-guard, the pistol worn but retaining slight traces of nickel-plated finish
