A .44 PERCUSSION SIX-SHOT ENGRAVED SINGLE-ACTION REVOLVER, MODEL '1860 ARMY', serial no. 68616,
for 1862, the engraving almost certainly executed later in South America, with round 8in. barrel signed 'ADDRESS COL. SAM L. COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA', the address fully surrounded by a panel of open scroll-work extending down the sides of the barrel throat with two smaller panels extending back from a borderline engraved around the muzzle, stepped cylinder with roll engraved cylinder scene, fully floral scroll engraved open iron frame marked 'COLTS PATENT, iron back-strap engraved with further floral scroll, brass front-strap and trigger guard bow with engraved detail, smooth ivory grip, the left side carved with a raised Mexican eagle clutching a snake, a number of U.S. inspector's letter stamps, most notably an 'F' behind the trigger-guard bow and a 'P' on both steps of the cylinder, creeping under-barrel rammer, slight traces of finish in sheltered areas
