A RARE LANES, BIRMINGHAM .177 BREAK-BARREL AIR-RIFLE, MODEL 'GEM-TYPE PATENT BALL-TRIGGER', serial no. 71064, for between 1920-1930, with heavy 17 3/4in. round profile barrel with flat matted sighting-plane, dove-tailed fore-sight, large angular breech-block marked on the left hand side 'LANE'S PATENT BALL-TRIGGER', the top with standing notch rear-sight and large chequered thumb-button which in pressing lifts a flat hooked plate mounted on the air-chamber and allows the barrel to drop open, slanted air-chamber of gem type, walnut butt-stock with iron heel-plate and cocking-link trigger-guard combined, stripped of finish with some frosting
