AN EXCEPTIONALLY RARE 140-BORE PERCUSSION DOUBLE-BARRELLED KNIFE-PISTOL OF 'UNWIN' FORM, MODEL 'SELF PROTECTOR', no visible serial number,
circa 1840, with independent nickel-silver tapering 3 1/4in. barrels of semi octagonal form, nipples mounted in the rear, twin central hammers, nickel-silver body with brass bolsters, full-length walnut scales held with brass pins, nickel blade hinge covers, folding independent triggers to the underside along with four folding blades; two small outer blades (the left signed 'JAMES RODGERS SHEFFIELD') and two larger blades, the left of stiletto form and etched with scrolls and the legend 'SELF PROTECTOR', the forte signed 'JAMES RODGERS SHEFFIELD', the right of clip-point style also etched 'SELF PROTECTOR' but unsigned, two hinged lid compartments to rear and two vacant apertures possibly for tweezers etc

Other Notes: This pistol is not simply two pistols combined at a later date attested to by the fact that the left hand blades have left hand nail slots for opening and the right hand blades have right hand slots
