KAARE HALVORSEN, NORWAY
A FINE SILVER-MOUNTED METAMORPHIC BARREL-KNIFE WITH MAMMOTH TUSK HANDLE,
made in 2015, 4 1/2in. closed and 6 1/2in. open, of traditional smooth barrel form with silver caps, one with blade aperture, the other with release catch, the blade and the engine-turned inner stainless mount signed 'KH', the mounts marked '925', and the central portion of polished mammoth tusk spirally wound with twisted silver wire

Other Notes: On these traditional Norwegian barrel-knives the barrel shaped handle houses the steel blade which is folded on a pivot in-between stainless-steel liners, which in turn sandwich the blade when closed. Mr. Kaare Halvorsen from Telemark in Norway has a long history in making superior handmade custom knives based on Norwegian and Swedish traditions. For this work he has received a large number of best honours, and his work has been very well presented in various magazine articles. In particular, Mr. Halvorsen has specialized in making barrel knives, also known as a folding "sloyd". This form was first made in Eskilstuna, Sweden in the mid-19th century. No modern machinery is used in making these traditional knives. Consequently, it is a time-consuming process and although Mr. Halvorsen has specialized in making these, only 50 exclusive knives have so far been made. This knife made with rare mammoth tusk achieved first place in the "Open class - elite" knife category at The 2014 Nordic Hunting and Fishing Days Show in Elverum, Norway, as arranged by The Norwegian Knife Association.
