AN 1863 PATENT .360 NO.5 (ROOK) SINGLE-BARRELLED PULL-BACK TOPLEVER HAMMER ROOK RIFLE, serial no. 1756,
26 1/2in. black powder only octagonal barrel, matted sight flat, replacement blade fore-sight, standing notch rear sight with two folding leaf sights marked for 80 and 120 yds, and with white metal inlaid sight lines, the top flat engraved 'THOMAS HORSELY MAKER. YORK. PATENT. 2410 & 1138.', T. Horsley patent action incorporating Horsely patent pull back toplever, patent no. 2410 of 1st October 1863, and Horsley patent retracting striker, patent no. 1138 of 17th April 1867, non rebounding bolted back-action lock with cammed hammer, the obverse shaped to imitate a lockplate, retaining slight traces of original colour-hardening and finish, 14 1/18in. stock, steel buttplate, semi-beavertail fore-end with fluted finial, weight 6lb. 4oz., in its makers case with some accessories
