type '2' dated 1838, with 41 1/2in. barrel, applied brass crescent fore-sight, applied rear-sight mount for a folding leaf-sight (blade absent), solid top-tang, heavy Russian arsenal signed lock converted from flint and with remnants of the original brass pan, walnut three-quarter stock, dated brass furniture, the heel-plate spur stamped with a Russian eagle and the serial number, two barrel-bands and twin banded brass nose-cap, provision for ramrod (missing)
Other Notes: Of note is the official leaf sight mount not previously recorded on any 1828/44 muskets, though it appears occasionally on later models. The fitting of such a sight indicates the use of the "Nessler Ball" and the extended sighting range required.
