with Edinburgh hallmarks for 1941, polished plain straight spear-point blade double edged for the last 6 1/8in., the remainder of the back edge with deep open-ended fuller, silver thistle engraved cross-guard with integral shoulders forming half-straps to the celtic knot carved bog-oak hilt, the hilt further studded with iron nails, carved circular pommel with rope-edged silver pommel-cap, black patent leather scabbard (crazed) with moulded silver chape and engraved throat, the front with two pockets mounted in silver for the en-suite eating knife and fork, the reverse with swivel wire hanger
