A 16-BORE PERCUSSION DOUBLE-BARRELLED SPORTING-GUN FOR RESTORATION, serial no. 2372,
for 1831, with 29in. barrels (darkly stained externally, address details absent), platinum line and vents at breech, borderline and scroll engraved bar-action locks signed 'PURDEY', (one hammer screw crudely replaced), walnut half-stock chequered at the wrist (fresh crack to wood underside of left hand lock), iron furniture (worn) and probable replacement brass tipped ramrod
Provenance: According to the maker, this gun was completed in 1832 for The Earl of Shannon as a double-barrelled percussion gun of 17-bore with 29in. barrels.
Richard Boyle, 4th Earl of Shannon (12 May 1809 – 1 August 1868), styled Viscount Boyle until 1842, was a British politician of the Whig party. He served as Member of Parliament for Cork County from 1830 to 1832.
