first year of manufacture, 1881, with nickel-plated 4in. barrel, raised sighting-rib signed by the maker and with patent dates to 1880, crescent fore-sight, break-open auto-ejecting frame with blued release catch, fluted cylinder with distinctive double notch locking slots, chequered hard-rubber grips embossed with the 'S&W' trademark, blued trigger-guard, colour-hardened trigger and hammer, the back-strap has 'E.M. REILLY 502 NEW OXFORD ST LONDON' engraved along its length, the whole remaining in remarkable condition and appearing virtually unused
