A RARE .44 (RUSSIAN) SERVICE-REVOLVER, MODEL 'NEW MODEL No3 AUSTRALIAN CONTRACT', serial no. 12212, WITH STOCK,
with nickel-plated 7in. barrel, the sighting rib signed and with patent dates to 1871, pinned crescent fore-sight, standing notch to the blued barrel-latch, break-open frame with auto-ejecting fluted cylinder, short ejector housing, single action mechanism, rounded butt with chequered hard-rubber grips, the heel slotted for the detachable shoulder stock and stamped with a broad arrow, the back-strap with corresponding stock location hole, the whole retaining virtually all its later but period plated finish and complete with a boxed factory Smith & Wesson un-stamped shoulder stock with walnut butt and nickel furniture except chequered hard rubber heel-plate, appearing little unused
Other Notes: Only 250 of these revolvers were contracted to Australia for the Australian Colonial Police with 7in. barrels and detachable stocks and another 30 with 6 1/2in. barrels with no provision for stocks. Seldom encountered today
