STAN SHAW, SHEFFIELD A FINE QUALITY BOXED FIVE-BLADED FOLDING POCKET-KNIFE

Product Details

STAN SHAW, SHEFFIELD
A FINE QUALITY BOXED FIVE-BLADED FOLDING POCKET-KNIFE
produced to customer order circa 1984, with four approximately 1 1/2in. blades of differing styles; large and small drop-point, clip point and lambs-foot with a centrally mounted pair of folding scissors, all signed 'STAN SHAW, SHEFFIELD', the back edge of each with scalloped carving repeated to all mainsprings, scroll engraved nickel-silver bolsters and smooth mother of pearl scales, one side with a small rectangular escutcheon for initials and complete in its flock-lined wood box with some notes on the maker

Other Notes: After working for a number of the more illustrious Sheffield knife makers such as Ibbersons, Wostenholm, John Clarke and John Watts, the changing face of the Sheffield knife industry forced Stan Shaw to 'go it alone' in the early 1980's. By the 1990's he was amongst the most respected producers of exhibition knives, and being a one man band had a long waiting list for his products. Specialising in multi-blade pocket knives, mother of pearl scales are one of his particular favourites, and even has his own hallmark registered at the assay office. For further background on the man and his knives we recommend Geoffrey Tweedale's book 'The Sheffield Knife Book' first edition, 1996, pgs. 270-273
