circa 1800, with browned twist round 4in. barrel, carved raised concave sighting rib marked 'LONDON', bead fore-sight, gold line at breech and platinum touch-hole, engraved top-tang with shallow sighting notch engraved with a starburst, flat slightly curved bevel-edged lock signed 'SMITH' with clipped and stepped tail, border engraving with extra detail below pan and at tail, rainproof pan with roller spring to frizzen and sliding safe behind the engraved hammer, walnut full-stock with chequered bag-shaped butt, the wrist inlet with a clipped corner rectangular escutcheon, iron trigger guard bow with strong traces of gilt in sheltered areas and brass tipped ebony under-barrel ramrod
