circa 1840, with slightly swamped octagonal rifled 18in. damascus barrel, small dove-tailed blade fore-sight, elevating rear-sight on the top-tang, borderline engraved breech-block with fenced nipple, borderline engraved bar-action lock with dipped and radiused tail, the lockplate signed 'VASSELON A MARSEILLE', walnut half-stock with oversized fluted full pistol-grip, carved iron mount at back of wrist to take the walnut butt-stock, iron furniture including heel-plate, butt-cap and spurred trigger-guard bow and iron under-barrel ramrod (frozen, rib lifting)
