A 16 BORE PERCUSSION DOUBLE-BARRELLED SPORTING-GUN SIGNED WATMOUGH, no visible serial number, circa 1860, with 25in. twist barrels the top rib signed "R. WATMOUGH, 13 BLACKFRIARS STREET, MANCHESTER", bolsters with platinum plugs, and fixed breech engraved with high quality foliate scroll-work, the border decorated bar-action locks signed "R. Watmough" with further acanthus foliate scroll engraving together with game bird scenes, hammers engraved to match, iron mounted figured walnut half-stock with chequered wrist and forend, (worn) vacant silver escutcheon inset into the wrist, the iron mounts all with high quality scroll engraving. The barrels to a grey / brown patina some light speckling, a little thin at muzzles hammer noses damaged, replacement rod. Robert Watmough was established at 13 Blackfriars St, circa 1854-69.
