R.H. BATE 12-BORE 'SNIDER PATENT' SINGLE-BARRELLED SHOTGUN, no visible serial number, circa 1870, 32in. black powder only damascus barrel, the breech end engraved 'R.H. BATE SENR MAKER. BIRMM.', and with a starburst, 2 1/2in. chamber, bored approx. true cyl, Snider patent flip-up breech, bar-action sidelock with rebounding hammer, border and acanthus scroll engraving, retaining very slight traces of colour-hardening, figured stock with tiger striping and horn fore-end finial, cross-pin release catch, 13 1/2in. pull including steel buttplate, weight 7lb. 6oz.
