circa 1858, with octagonal 5 1/16in. barrel, engraved band at muzzle, panels of scroll engraving to the upper side barrel flats at muzzle, colour hardened rammer, borderline engraved wedge frame, the top-strap marked 'F.J. SMITH & CO LONDON', plain six-shot cylinder with rope-twist band to leading edge, each chamber numbered '1' through '6' respectively, double action mechanism with spur-less hammer and side safe spring, chequered walnut grips and engraved and moulded butt-cap, the silver plated finish thinning and flaking throughout; together with its probable original walnut storage case lined and compartmented in green baize, parchment 'F. Smith, Birmingham' trade label and complete with a period lozenge flask, Joyce cap-tin, ebony cleaning rod and oil bottle
