A 12-BORE 'NO.2 MODEL' SIDELOCK EJECTOR, serial no. 24921,
for 1908, 30in. nitro barrels, the rib gold-inlaid '2' at the breech end, the tubes engraved 'HOLLAND & HOLLAND. 98 NEW BOND STREET. LONDON.' 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. imp. cyl. and 1/4 choke, toplever gold-inlaid '2', automatic safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, gold-inlaid cocking-indicators, fine border and acanthus scroll engraving, retaining traces of colour-hardening, 15 1/8in. stock (slight cast on) including 1 3/8in. wooden extension (inked to match), weight 6lb. 9oz., in a leather case
Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed the gun was completed in 1911 as a match to earlier gun No. 21654 for 'Bannerman'.
Copies of the original records are included with the gun, together with a short piece of provenance, dated 2016, confirming 'Bannerman' to be Major Sir Alexander Bannerman, 11th Baronet of Elsick and that the gun had remained within the family until that date. Regarding Major Bannerman, the provenance reads:
"Major Bannerman (16.12.1871 - 10.03.1934) served in the Royal Engineers and, as a balloonist, became the commandant of the Air Battalion prior to it being reformed with powered aircraft into the Royal Flying Corps. He retired from the R.E. and R.F.C in 1912 but re-enlisted for the First World War and retired with the rank of Lt. Colonel. He died in 1934 in South Africa"
