dated for 1869, with blued 8in. smoothbore barrel, applied boat-shaped fore-sight, standing notch rear-sight to the rear of the nocksform, solid top-tang, plain colour hardened lock marked 'E.I.G.' and 'BIRMINGHAM 1869', crown and broad arrow device at tail, walnut full-stock with brass furniture, the lower right side off grip stamped with a roundel marked 'FEPOZ EPORE' and a crown around '6' over '78', serial number to heel-plate, the left side-cheek marked 'JOSEPH SMITH' and stamped with a 'BIRMINGHAM E.I.G.' and crown roundel, the lower edge of left side of grip marked 'F.A.3 1885', fixed lanyard ring at heel and captive iron ramrod, strong amount of finish
