* A CONTINENTAL 12mm PERCUSSION SPORTING TARGET RIFLE SIGNED F. BARTUSCH IN WIEN, no visible serial number,
circa 1855, with etched damascus 27 3/4in. octagonal barrel, dove-tailed fore-sight (blade absent), elevating notch rear-sight with carved and engraved foot, the top-flat of barrel inlaid in gilt script 'F. BARTUSCH IN WIEN' flanked by gilt needles and with a stylised Greek key gilt band at breech, carved breech-block engraved with a mountain goat, fully scroll engraved top-tang with further gilded accents around the rear nail and to front of tang, a bordered gilt monogram 'A.K.' forwards of the pan-headed peep-sight, replacement top-nail, complex shaped scroll engraved back-action lock signed 'F. BARTUSCH', recoloured hammer with applied gilt detail, walnut full-stock finely chequered at the wrist (well repaired hairline cracks at wrist), carved and moulded cheek-piece and lip to rear of grip, carved wood sliding patchbox, engraved iron heel-plate with traces of a further monogram to spur, full scroll engraved iron sideplate mimicking the lockplate and marked 'IN WIEN', moulded and pierced horn grip-spur, engraved trigger guard bow with white metal inlaid borders, double set triggers, small chequered panel to underside of fore-end with inlet ebony diamond, relief carving around the ramrod throat, turned and carved thimbles, ebony ramrod (frozen), further repairs to fore-end
