BARNSLEY 16-BORE / 16-BORE (BALL) ROTARY-UNDERLEVER HAMMER CAPE RIFLE, serial no. 1844 / 64255, circa 1875, 30in. black powder only damascus barrels, broad matt rib, dove-tailed bead fore-sight, express rear sight with three folding leaf sights and a folding ladder sight, the breech-end engraved 'S.W. BARNSLEY. GRAHAMSTOWN.', very faint, 2 1/2in. chamber, bar-action sidelocks with non-rebounding hammers (left hammer missing retaining screw), Jones patent underlever, acanthus scroll engraving, brushed bright finish, triggerguard forming a pistolgrip, 14 1/2in. figured stock smashed through with brass strengthening plates at the head, fore-end with cross-pin release catch, weight 9lb. 1oz.
