probably German circa 1785, with slender micro-rifled 28in. barrel, fixed breech, diminutive open sights, side-mounted borderline engraved bar-action lock of boxlock style but with moulded exposed cocking 'hammer', conical leather covered air-reservoir with domed base of Girandoni type, guarded trigger, smooth walnut half fore-end and bun-headed under-barrel ramrod, together with a possibly period stirrup pump, gang-mould and later oil bottle, in a period mahogany case relined and compartmented for this rifle in green baize
