A 28-BORE 'PATENT SMOOTH BORE' ROTARY-UNDERLEVER DOUBLE-BARRELLED HAMMER RIFLE, serial no. 2791,
circa 1855 and a conversion from muzzle loading, 29 13/16in. black powder only damascus barrels proved as '30-bore' and marked for 28in. chambers, raised wave cut rib with three folding leaf sights marked for 100, 200 and 300 yards, standing sight missing, bead fore-sight, the rib with banner engraved 'CONVERTED BY BARRATT & SON. BURTON ON TRENT', the underside engraved 'CHARLES LANCASTER. 151. NEW BOND STREET. LONDON. PATENT SMOOTH BORE RIFLE', internally pitted, Jones patent rotary underlever, carved percussion fences, rebounding sidelocks with bold acanthus scrollwork and scrolling banners engraved 'C. LANCASTER. LONDON.', the action bar with acanthus scrollwork and beaded bordering, bowed triggerguard with a scene of clashing stags, the triggerguard tang chequered, 15in. figured stock with cheekpiece, button sling eye, chequered steel buttplate with long top tang, the right side of butt with a steel patchbox engraved with a scene of running red deer, fore-end with Anson push rod release catch, weight 8lb. 6oz.
