AN UNUSUAL PROPRIETARY 12-BORE SLIDE-AND-TILT ROTARY-UNDERLEVER HAMMER PIGEON/WILDFOWLING GUN, serial no. 5285,
circa 1886, 31in. nitro reproved bold damascus barrels with broad raised tapered file cut rib, the tubes engraved 'WILLIAM FORD. 23, LOVEDAY ST. ST. MARY'S. BIRMINGHAM.', 2 3/4in. chambers, bored approx. 3/4 choke in both, slide and tilt action with a variant Jones type rotary underlever, the action face fully recessed to accommodate the protruding barrel breech and with an additional slot for third barrel bite, sliding locking crosspin, the knuckle with forward facing lifter (possibly missing pin), carved percussion fences, non-rebounding back-action locks, beaded border engraving, retaining traces of colour-hardening, 14in. figured semi-pistolgrip stock with sling swivels and border engraved steel heel and toe plates, fore-end with Anson push rod release, weight 8lb. 2oz.
